Yogyakarta - Tigalima Homestay: A Review

All Galen required for our long stay in Yogyakarta was a good WIFI connection; me a clean and quiet environment. Tigalima Homestay satisfied us both.

Transjogja- Halte Urip Sumoharjo

The Transjogja ride from Yogyakarta's Adisucipto International Airport to Tigalima Homestay at Jalan Affandi took around 15 minutes. We were given very clear instructions by the homestay staff- we looked out for a cinema named 'XXI' and a Giant supermarket on the opposite. We alighted at this bus stop - Halte Urip Sumoharjo.

Jalan Affandi

Previously known as Jalan Gejayan, Jalan Affandi is named after Affandi, an Indonesian artist whose works were likened to van Gogh. Naturally, the lanes in the area exuded artistic vibes and rustic charms.

Tigalima Homestay is ranked #8 out of 244 Yogyakarta B&Bs on Tripadvisor. And indeed, it a hidden gem, away from the hustle bustle of the main streets. It is a sanctuary on its own.

Tigalima Homestay - Porch to chill

Each room is uniquely and tastefully decorated, with a little porch for you to chill. We chose Room Tamarind for we fell in love with its zen bedroom and outdoor bathroom.

Room Tamarind was clean and spacious; the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable; the outdoor shower was refreshing. There was a huge writing desk for Galen to work, and the WIFI speed would put Singtel to shame. First world items like air-conditioner, cable TV and refrigerator were also available in the room.

Tigalima Homestay - Hit electrical mosquito coil

The only downside was the mosquitoes, understandable because of the outdoor bathroom. However, the problem was easily solved with an electric mosquito coil/ repellant that is widely available in all supermarkets. We got ours at the Giant supermarket just down the road, and it worked wonders for us.

The staff at Tigalima Homestay were very helpful and friendly, and spoke good English. For breakfast, we had a choice of fried rice, fried noodles, toast or sandwich with coffee or tea. We had to order breakfast the evening before at the front counter, and the staff would deliver it to our room at our designated time the next morning. We had the homely breakfasts at our front porch everyday.

Isn't it wonderful to be waking up to such cheery sight every morning?

Tigalima Homestay is truly a good find and we had no regrets for choosing it. We would highly recommend it to all whose next travel-lust destination is Yogyakarta.
